International 12 Metre Association

For more than a century, the International 12 Metre Class has defined sailing at its highest level. Born in 1907 and refined over 118 years, these yachts represent the pinnacle of design, competition, and prestige. Conceived by legends—Olin Stephens, Clinton Crane, William Fife III, Philip Rhodes, Johan Anker, Ben Lexcen—the 12 Metres were the proving ground for racing innovation and excellence. From Olympic courses to the ultimate arena of the America’s Cup, they were not merely participants, but champions. Today, every 12 Metre still sailing is a living work of art: restored, raced, and revered—a rare convergence of heritage, performance, and timeless elegance.

The International Twelve Metre Association is comprised of 3 fleets worldwide:

Americas

The International Twelve Metre Association (ITMA) unites and governs the global community of 12 Metre Class yachts—one of the most iconic and enduring classes in the history of competitive sailing. ITMA is organized into three primary regional fleets, each representing a distinct area of the world where these magnificent yachts continue to race and be preserved with passion and precision.

Anchored in the sailing capital of Newport, RI, the Americas fleet reaches boldly across two continents, uniting yachts and sailors throughout the United States and the Caribbean in a dynamic community of racing and camaraderie.

Northern Europe

With vibrant activity centered in the Baltic Sea, the Northern Europe fleet proudly unites sailing communities across Great Britain, Holland, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Southern Europe

With the sparkling Mediterranean as its playground, the Southern Europe fleet brings together stunning yachts from France, Italy, Turkey, Portugal, and even reaches as far as Oceania, creating a thrilling international sailing community.
